Jan Chronister

Hay Hook

Cold steel soon hot
in July sun & calloused hands
hefting scratchy bales on wagons
unloading to elevator
stacking in loft.

So much lifting, sweating
no sense of time
aging a hundred years
in the heat of one day.

Jan Chronister lives and writes in the woods near Maple, Wisconsin. She has a full-length poetry collection coming in the fall of 2018 from Clover Valley Press.
