Jan Chronister

Made in India

Small stitched-on mirrors
reflect nothing
embroidered elephants
parade near edge of hem.

I’ve seen real elephants
caked with mud at zoos
displayed in circus rings,
eyes dull like those of
the workers who made
these clothes.

Jan Chronister lives in the woods near Maple, Wisconsin with her husband and aging cat. Her full-length poetry collection titled Caught between Coastswas recently published by Clover Valley Press. More on Jan and her work can be found at www.janchronisterpoetry.wordpress.com
