It hadn’t started in weeks
and the way they towed it off
by the bumper
you could tell they didn’t expect it
to start again

that the scrap yard obituary
had already been

and I followed close behind
in a cab
with a man who smelled like
the 60s

and then they put my baby up on the lift
and I swear I watched an angel
returned to the heavens

with leaking oil
and a knocked out
tail light

while two kids in blue overalls
took drills to the underbelly
so we could know if such things
were fatal.
